Where? Location description

Silver Falls State Park is a stunning Temperate Rainforest outside of Salem, OR. Known for it’s hiking trails to or past 10 waterfalls, it’s the largest state park in Oregon. The cabin village has several different types of lodgings including the group cabins we’ll be staying in. The village has a lodge & cafe, outdoor gathering and bonfire area, a massive meadow, a creek and pathways that wind through the trees.

We have 2 family style cabins each with 6 bedrooms (2 single or 1 queen per room), multi-stall bathroom and showers, plus common area with woodfire stove and tv (for movie night or karaoke?!)

Bathroom access

Each group cabin has a multi toilet stall bathroom and showers for the cabin to share. Don’t worry about being embarrassed if you have tummy troubles. We do too, so you won’t be tootin’ alone!

Seating

Each group cabin has a livingroom style common area with various seating types. The folks in charge couldn’t promise us an exact description of what is currently in each cabin but from photos it looks like a varity of love seats, sofas, and chairs both with and without arms.

Our reccomendation is that if you have a folding or camping chair you like, bring it with you!

Heat/cooling/weather

April at Silver Falls National Park has a history of being temperate. With lows generally around 40 and highs around 72. With 14 days a month of rain in April, it’s likely to be damp but let’s keep our eyes on the weather when it gets closer.

The cabins have a woodstove for heating (and making tea?) and there is no AC (which is why we’re doin it in April!)

Photo/video release policy

Please note that we’ll be taking photos and video clips to document the fun. We’ll share those images with you and with the Chub Hub and FGH groups. We may use them for showing off how much damn fun we had. They won’t be used or given out for use by anyone outside these organizations.

Events & activities

This long weekend in the woods is meant for you to choose your own adventures. Ellen Schragel of Fat Girls Hiking-Portland will be leading a couple of waterfall hikes over the weekend. There will be yoga, crafting time, bonfires, s’mores, mini-workshops relating to the outdoors, movies and popcorn, meteor shower stargazing, plus other little surprises.

Food and drink options

Food & drink is not included in the price of the Glampout.

You can bring your own food, drink, cooler and cooking gear to make your own meals just like tent camping. Bring a grill or gas stove or use one of the camp fires around the property if you’re feeling really adventurous. There is no kitchen, but there is a microwave and a mini-fridge.

If you’re not so much into the camping cooking thing you can get some or all of your meals at the Big Leaf Coffehouse and Grill across the meadow from our group cabins. (South Falls Cafe and Silver Falls Country Store also have full menus and are located in other parts of the park.) On the weekends the coffeehouse offers breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as beer, cider and wine.

Alcohol (and other things)

You’re (mostly) all adults (probably) so we’ll leave it to you to make good choices. If you do embibe, you must be of legal age to do so and we ask that you enjoy responsibly and respectfully of the others in the group.

No smoking of any kind is allowed inside the cabins.

Please leave anything that’s not legal at home for this adventure weekend.

Covid policy

*These are the current protocols but will be amended based on preference of attendees and covid guidelines at the time of the event.

To be as safe as is reasonably possible we’ll be asking attendees to:
– Mask in indoor public spaces for the 5 days before the event
– Home test if having any symptoms or exposed to covid in the 10 days prior to the event
– At least 14 days since infection or negative test
– 1 group cabin can be setup as ‘masks required in public spaces’ if any attendee requests that option

Transportation options

Attendees will need to make their own way to the Glampout. However we’ll happily facilitate connecting attendees with each other for carpooling options.

Accessibility info

The outdoors aren’t always the most accessible to everyone but we have tried to make it as easy as possible for folks.

– 1 group cabin is ADA accessible
– The main lodge/restaurant is accessible
– there is 1 waterfall hike that is paved and mostly flat
– hikes will be as slow with lots of breaks for resting as needed
* this is the first time we are doing a big group out here so it’s a bit of a test run to see just HOW accessible things actually are in real life

Refund Policy

There are no refunds for any reason, however, transfers to a new attendee are allowed by simply letting Beth know the new person’s name and email.
