How it all started…

In 2019 a group of about 60 or so fat folks from in and around Portland were brought on as extras for an episode in, the yet to be released, tv adaptation of the book SHRILL by Lindy West. 

I think we all were caught up in the incredible energy of being in a space that was so joyously, unabashedly filled with fat people just enjoying life.

As show writer, comedian, author and fat blogger Samantha Irby says in this article about how the episode came to be…
“We walk into this ballroom, and I almost started crying,” she says. “It’s one thing to say, ‘Hey, can you put some real fat people in there?’ It’s another thing to walk into a room and see your dreams in front of your eyes.”

Out of that shared experience we wanted to relive it in the real world and be able to invite all our friends and community, thus the Big Splash! Fat Babe Pool Party was born.

From there we saw the desire of our community to have more opportunities to come together so Chub Hub has been expanding into other fat centric events like the annual Fat Joy Weekend Celebration each August.
